Series 66 Study Material: Kaplan or STC, Which is Better?

Series 66 Study Material

It’s been a while since we’ve touched on this topic, so let’s talk about the Series 66. Specifically, which Series 66 study material is best. The main two heavy weights in the space are Kaplan and STC.

In this post, we hit on both.

Series 66 Study Material

In recent years due to tightening regulations some people have had to take their Series 66, even though they worked for years with a Series 63. A well-established employee, having the wrong Series 66 study material, can get into big trouble in the middle of their career.

So which should you get?

Series 66 STC

For STC (aka Securities Training Corporation), you will find that their platform is fairly uniform across different exams.

If you’ve used it for any prior FINRA or NASAA exams then you will be very familiar with the user interface for the Series 66. STC does a good job in organizing their textbook, but in our view their practice exams, and the interface of their online questions leave a lot to be desired.

One of our issues with STC is that while you can take custom quizzes on any particular chapter, you cannot get more granular than that. This is where we believe Kaplan has a major advantage.

Series 66 Kaplan

Kaplan is very well known for their trademarked QBank. And, as they should be.

The QBank is always extremely well structured, matches very well with their textbook, and allows for users to get very granular in testing themselves on subtopics, within various chapters.

The major advantage around more granularity is that if you are having issues with futures and forwards for instance, then you do not need to take a practice exam on the overall chapter that covers futures and forwards just to find questions on them. The QBank allows you to drill down and create custom quizzes on subtopics.

We highly recommend this approach, and encourage you to treat it as if you are learning how to play a song on the piano. When learning the a song on the piano, you start with little bits at a time, and then put it all together in the end. You can use the QBank the same way.

Overall, we highly recommend Kaplan for the Series 66. If you have STC, and are required by your employer to use it then that’s totally fine too. We know many students that pass with STC’s material so it will be good enough. However, for the best experience, at Professional Exam Tutoring we recommend Kaplan.

Good luck!
