Why Some Hire a Tutor for the Series 7 Exam…and Why Some Don’t

Are you trying to figure out if you need a tutor for the Series 7 exam? Below I explain why some young professionals should use a tutor while others can go without.

Our tutors and online courses will definitely help accelerate your progress, but if you have the time, these resources might not be needed. For those in NYC, make sure to check out our guide to the best Series 7 tutors NYC has to offer.

Most jobs that require the Series 7, don’t have work hours that extend late into the wee hours of the evening. Financial advisers, brokers, and even some operations jobs require the Series 7 but it’s rare that you’ll frequently be pulling all nighters in these positions.

The Series 7 can be a difficult exam for some people, but with enough study time most people can pass it.

Why I DIDN’T Hire a Series 7 Tutor

I personally started studying for the Series 7 exam one month into my job as an Equity Research Associate. Not much was expected of me during the early months so I was able to get home to start studying by 7pm. I scheduled the exam and was able to pass on my first try with about 5 weeks of studying.

Passing the Series 7 came just in the nick of time because shortly after I passed, I experienced my first earnings season. I would get to the office around 7am, and didn’t leave until midnight on many occasions.

So Why Hire a Tutor for the Series 7?

Despite being intellectually capable of passing the Series 7, if you don’t have time to study, you may struggle. Jobs such as equity research, investment banking, equity sales, institutional credit analysis, among others, require long loooooong hours. Even the smartest folks need time to review the material if they want to pass the test.

I’m happy to tutor new students no matter their career, but I tend to get many more clients that have demanding hours. This is where I recommend young professionals get a tutor. In many instances, I’ve seen bosses pressure employees to get the exams done quickly. At the same time, they pile on the work. This is when a tutor can help keep your head above water and lower the time you need to get through the material.

At this point, if you’re wondering “How hard is the series 7, anyway?” check out our blog post on this exact topic.

Time or Money?

In the end it comes down to what you’re willing to part with. If you don’t mind putting in the extra time to ensure you get that passing grade then you probably don’t need a tutor. Of course if you don’t have the time, getting a tutor for the Series 7 is a quick and easy way to greatly improve the odds you pass. On that note, I would highly recommend you check out our services 🙂 Good luck!

  1. I’ve been a personal banker for 6 years and I just got hired on as an investment advisor. I start on May 1st and my boss is pressuring me to get the test done and overwith by June. I’m 29, extremely motivated, and willing to work hard. Please email me as soon as possible so I can begin studying for this exam. I live in Palm Harbor Florida.
