When studying for the equity research exam, Series 86 progress can seem slow and sometimes non-existent. A myriad of baked in assumptions and aged questions and answers make this a tough exam for which to prepare. In today’s post, we provide some tips and point you to some additional resources.
Series 86 Progress: Questions
The Series 86 Exam remains one of the most challenging FINRA exams out there. One key reason for this is that the resources are minimal. STC has been one of the only providers of practice questions in over 20 years.
Recently, yours truly, at Professional Exam Tutoring have become another supplier of practice exams. We also have a full series of over 10 hours of Series 86 exam course content.
With 170 practice questions (and more coming in the future), we expect to be able to help students answer questions that are more relevant for the actual exam. At the moment, STC provides a greater quantity of questions than our company. But, based on feedback from students the questions are not entirely helpful. From our experience with the platform, many are several years old, or older. While the older ones are not totally irrelevant, some are unlikely to be representative of current exam questions.
So What Do I Do?
Many FINRA exams are easily passable without a tutor. The Series 86 Exam is passable without a tutor, but it is MORE easily passable with a tutor. If you prefer not to spend the money on a tutor, then we have other advice. Take a look at the practice exams we offer for sale. They will likely provide you with an alternative set of questions from STC.
If you prefer to stick with STC, then that is also totally fine. However, our recommendation then is that you aim for a score well over 95% consistently with their material. Sometimes that still may not be enough but it is a good sign at the least. For more information, or help, on this difficult exam, feel free to reach out. Good luck!
