Is your Series 7 score stuck on your practice exams? In today’s post, we discuss ways to unstick your practice exam scores, which usually translates over into unsticking your actual exam scores.
Series 7 Score Stuck: Note Taking
Believe it, or not, there is a strategy to note taking. Whether you were taking notes in your notebook, on your phone, or your personal computer, it doesn’t really matter. What matters is the content of your notes and whether or not you review them.
Specifically, to keep your study process as streamlined as possible, we highly recommend that you only take notes on practice questions you were getting incorrect.
This means that you should not be taking any notes at all when you’re going through the Series 7 textbook for the first time, let alone on questions that you’re getting correct on your practice exams (unless you know you got it correct but it was a total guess).
It is best to have a consolidated set of notes for topics that specifically cause you problems. We don’t want you reviewing topics you already know.
Repeat Problem Areas
Take note of which sections are causing you headaches.
Do specific quizzes from those sections and make sure you thoroughly understand the questions and answers. At first, this may take time and a lot of hours but overtime you’ll get faster and faster.
Speed is obviously not the goal, however. It may, and hopefully does, indicate increased proficiency.
As you take notes and understand, jargon that was previously unfamiliar, will become much more comfortable for you.
Make sure to prioritize questions that appear to be heavily weighted according to the exams breakdown on the FINRA website. Not only prioritizing the big sections, but also the big sections where you feel you can ramp up the easiest – this is usually NOT Options for most people.
Overall, you can boost your score in very simple ways. Notetaking is probably the simplest, although sometimes requires the most work.
If you can get over that hurdle and start reviewing your notes for a minimum of 30 minutes per day, you are likely to boost your score by at least 5% or 10% from before you started the exercise. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
